Mozart's birthplaceSalzburg couldn't be skipped due to this year's 250th anniversary of the genius composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The town, situated in Austria and also called "The gate to the Alps", received us with rainy and windy weather. While crossing the river the gusty winds began a vicious game with our oversized umbrella and they could have blown us away if it wasn't for Mozart's Balls which we carried with us! Yes, the famous "Mozartkugeln" - oval chocolate pralines invented in Salzburg, perfect for tasty gifts and souvenirs :-P~ Salzburg has well preserved baroque buildings. Very typical are the unique signs which hang in front of every shop and the many passages that lead from one street to another. After a solid walk around the town it was time for a solid dinner. I decided to check inside a small pub, but couldn't reach the door because of a pigeon trapped inside the narrow porch. The bird panicked and seriously rocked some vases. I decided to get out before some kind of disaster happened (try explaining then that "a pigeon" broke the vases, they would have definitely believed us). In the end we had dinner at "Mohren" where they cook good Austrian, Italian and Indian food. |

Mozart Square; next to the statue there was a huge mutant "Mozartkugel" |
The fortress Hohensalzburg; we didn't visit it because of logistical reasons |

One of the many passages that connect the streets - again something very typical for Salzburg |
